Colbost

Most visitors go to Dunvegan Castle and the gardens are worth a visit. Do not miss out on a real treat. Take a right turn , just after the Tourist Information Centre , into Dunvegan Village. It is not well signposted. Here are small shops ; a nice fruit & veg shop plus fair trade (Fruit & Nut Place) , a Bakery , candle shop , Giant MacAskill Museum and some good hotels, plus restaurants and places for teas/snacks.

Orbost Gallery

Follow the Glendale sign (first road on the right) on to a T junction ,right goes to Glendale but a small detour by turning left and following the Orbost signs will lead to Orbost Gallery . Landscape paintings , prints , calligraphy and wood engravings by professional artists Marion Roberts & Paul Kershaw. They also provide picture framing & stock artists materials for the inspired.

A pleasant short walk is past Orbost House to the beach at Varkasaig .For the fitter & more adventurous is the walk
from Orbost to the ruined village at Ramasaig but this is a two day trek with an overnight stay at the bothy. This goes through Orbost Estate

Now retrace your steps back to the Glendale road. A left turn and a winding single track road will lead you to Colbost. Please stop for a while it's well worth it.

Standing on a grassy terrace , 18th century Orbost House , steeped in mystery and intrigue ,once the home of Otta Swire of "Skye, the island and its legends" fame , now offers self catering
apartments.

Just a short walk from MacLeods Tables with grand views of the Cullins plus seeing the Isles of Rum and Canna , it has both abundant seclusion and the bright lights of Dunvegan close by. A real treasure on the Isle of Skye
